Pros And Cons Of Video Games
We live in an age where every kid wants to get their hands on the latest rapid fire mods and go to the limit to have their parents buy them a rapid fire chip. Many parents have made video games a way of getting their kids to stay put and the modding xbox controller is becoming a favorite baby-sitter, allowing parents not to worry much about their kids. Are there any consequences of this mentality? Below are some advantages and disadvantages of video games:
Pros
* Social Skills- It has been proven that children who are normally shy have been said to be able to become more sociable after engaging in video games.
* Forget Pain- video games are loved by kids with serious illness or injuries. Its a way to take their minds off from their condition and focus on something else.
* Creativity Boost- majority of vid games involve a hind of creativity. Children are able to discover their creative selves.
* Improves Cognitive skills- majority of games involve a lot of problem solving and strategy. Children are able to practice their problem solving skills and learn to think fast.
* Self Confidence- all children feel a sense of accomplishment in the games they play. They will have higher self confidence in general if they discover they are good at something even if its at video games.
Disadvantages
* Ruins the eyes- hours spent in front of screens are known to destroy ones’ vision. Getting your vision ruined at a young age will affect the childs entire life.
* Time consuming- video games are definitely addictive and if kids get hooked on them, school work, family time and other recreation will be pushed aside. They’re childhood will be robbed of many wonderful experiences.
* Sedentary- spending so much time sitting in front of their screens usually results in kids becoming overweight. They will be more prone to teasing at school and probably will have health problems later on.
* It’s costly- video games aren’t very cheap and neither is the cost of electricity. It’s money that would have been far useful somewhere else.
* Violence- today’s games aren’t innocent! They are full of gore and violence. According to experts, children who have been exposed to violent games have a higher chance to become violent themselves and perhaps even criminals.
* Bad parenting- its a fact- parents who let the video games do the baby sitting aren’t doing their jobs. Families lack communication because of children’s addiction to these games.
There are the facts. Yes, they do have their advantages but it would be wise to think twice before letting your child have his way. Never should video take the place of good parenting.
